Just a quick reminder that the next “do” at the hall is a Spuds & Puds Lunch on the 29th November (from Noon to 1:30pm) – it’s just £7:50 a head including coffee or tea, or you can bring your own drinks (I think Chardonnay is good with Baked potatoes!!!).

Assorted fillings for the baked spuds of course and a variety of puddings too – what’s not to like!

Come and enjoy some good winter food and company.

Check the Website for other upcoming events

We circulated a list of planned events a month or so back, but if you have lost that poster, then just check the website to see all the currently planned events from now to September 2026!!!!

Kaber Show 2025 Pics & Results

Well that went well!

Huge Thanks to all the Community who contributes entries, attended or helped with the event.  Well Done! We were even blessed with sunshine.

Sarah L deserves a special vote of thanks as the person who masterminded all the organisation and did most of the pre-event work and organised food and everything. …and a thank-you to the Heggerscale crew from “up the hill” for lending their tent and barbecue that they had clubbed together to make/buy,…

Congratulations to the winners – a great selection, demonstrating the skills in the community…. and especially to Val Walton for being overall winner and continuing a long tradition of the Waltons competing and winning!

Here are the results for each class (<<<click to view)

Here are all the pictures we took –

(if anyone wants any removed please just contact one of the trustees or working group and let them know.) There is a slideshow, or you can click on the thumbnails to see them full-size.

Kaber Show: Have your say

This year’s Kaber Show will be on the 6th September (barring complications) building on the success of last year’s event. and the great support of the community with many entries in almost 30 classes.

But, it’s always possible to make it even better, so next Monday (9th June at 7:30pm) we are holding a meeting to start the planning process for this year.

If you have ideas on how to improve it, or want to organise something, or just provide feedback on last year’s show; then come along and have your say.

Trophies

We also have a box of trophies from previous shows, many for livestock classed which are no longer part of the show, and we need to decide what to do with them. So, for example, if you have an idea on what to do with a “Best Gimmer Hog Rose-bowl” trophy (assign it to a new class, sell it, reclaim it as your family’s heirloom, or anything else) please do come and help us decide.

See you next Monday!

Spring 2025 Events at KVH

You will find all our planned events on the web site (events page), but we thought it would be good to provide a poster you can print and pin to your fridge!

You can download it here or there is a snap-shot below…. (and we will put some printed copies on the notice boards, so you can help yourself).

As you can see we are repeating some of our more successful events (Quiz and Bingo nights) and also our regular coffee mornings (upgraded to a BIG Brunch in April) and craft club continues as normal. Please do come along and support your Village Hall.

The Gas Heater is working – Louise demonstrating it by warming her hands! Thank you to Alistair Hanna for an excellent job

The 2nd bit of news the gas heater is installed and working, so no more freezing nights at KVH… Thank you to all who helped get this done, and to Lillian for recommending Alistair Hanna who did an excellent job.

…and lastly B4RN is nearly here....  after all

The Village hall B4RN broadband box is installed – it will be working soon!!!

your fabulous support and fund raising you will have seen the B4RN vans and tractors around, some people in Kaber have had their fibre boxes installed and the Village Hall had it’s fitted on Friday – the service is provided free (as part of B4RN’s social service), and in the coming weeks we will have gigabit WiFi you can use at the Hall… So our computer clubs will get easier to run.

Computer Club: On that note; thanks to Damon (Rachel’s other half) for loaning us his 3G router for last week’s Computer Club Night (so we had WiFi in the hall), and while only 2 people came we were able to introduce one to the delights and capabilities of their iPad and some of the apps available, and help Sarah Lofthouse to make a new website for her nursery in Warcop.

So, while only having 2 people was a bit disappointing, it was an improvement on the last one, where only one person arrived! But the good news was we managed to help that person bring her Amazon tablet to life and get her connected to the Internet (much to the amazement of one of her family who had given up on ever getting the device to work)…. So, bring along that thing that never does what you want, and let us help you make use of it!

Soup & Sweet

The Next Soup & Sweet Event is on Saturday 19th October (Next Saturday) from 11:30 until 1:30. Just £5 a head, for Soup and a Sweet (surprisingly enough!).

Come along to warm up and have some chat – there will be coffee & tea, if you want something stronger then please bring your own.
