The Continuing Plan

Following on from the Meeting we had on the 22nd May to think about events and activities at the Village Hall, and from the decision by the Trustees to separate the events and fundraising activities of the Village Hall from the legal aspects of running the hall, we are planning to hold the next meeting of the Friends of Kaber Village Hall on Monday 30th October at 7:30pm.

The Objectives

The objective of this meeting is to develop some ideas for events people would like to see at the hall, and attach some names to organising those events.

Building a Team

We also need to create a “bookings and housekeeping” team. This will hopefully include a small team of people who can process bookings requests for the hall, schedule events and organise the “housekeeping” aspects of running the hall, like Key Holders, Heating Managers and Bookings Secretaries, a Cleaning Crew, and Catering Helpers etc..

Hopefully, we will be able to organise this via one or more rotas, so that the workload is shared around.

KVHTeal300pxIt would be nice try to make the hall look a bit more inviting too, with a little colour or pictures or bunting? So ideas from the more artistic members of the Parish would be great!

Please do come along

Please do come along,  even if you only have ideas or skills to contribute or just a burning desire to put your hand up to help to build Kaber a great Community Hub.

Thank you.

Parish Meeting: 23rd October

Monday 23rd October 7:00pm

The next Parish Meeting is on Monday 23rd, and will be held in the Village Hall, all residents are welcome. Keep an eye on the Parish Notice Boards for full agenda in the coming days.

If you want to include items for discussion or have any questions please contact the Parish Meeting Clerk, Louise Duckett, 01768 372893.

Cleaning the Hall (Kitchen): 15th October

Sunday 15th October from  2pm to 4pm

While it’s not so much of an “entertainment“; getting the Kitchen and Hall clean before the Soup and Sweet event seems important.

Hopefully, we can all have a bit of chat, and laugh –  and Sarah has promised Tea/Coffee and Cakes too!

We will have some cleaning materials on hand, but perhaps bring your prefered muck-busting tools too?

…and there is a call for more pictures for the walls – history of Kaber, scenes from around the Parish or just pretty things, will improve the look, and cheaper than patching up the paintwork!

…and we will have more news about Friends Of Kaber Village Hall (“KOKVH”?)…

Meet the Committee(s)

The Kaber Village Hall Charity Committee is formed of a group of Volunteers. It is the formal body responsible for the Charity, the Building and the Funds. As such members of the Committee are also legal “Trustees” of the Charity.

However, we are very aware that there are lots of folk who would love to help, but can’t take on the responsibilities of Trusteeship. So we have a sub-committee of helpers and organisers, known as “The Friends of Kaber Village Hall” who are the muscle behind the Charity Trustees and who actually organise and run most of the events. If you want to join this team, just let one of the Trustees know, and the team will be very happy to find you work – there’s lots to be done!

Trustees

Today the Charity has 8 trustees (out 10 vacancies). we aim to reduce the number of Trustees over the coming months as 10 is rather too many.

The Trustees today are:

The Friends of Kaber Village Hall include:

      • Liz Staley
      • Christine Colson
      • …and all of the Trustees!

A Website for the Village Hall

Communications are probably the most important thing for a community to operate well. The Village Hall teams use several approaches to speak with the Kaber Community

  • Posters and Leaflets: Printed information is always the simplest approach, so you will find information both in the Hall and on the Village Hall noticeboard (the Yellow & Black one outside on the wall. When events are coming up, we will usually also place “sandwich boards” on the green by the road, that you can see as you drive by
  • Social Media: The Hall has a page on Facebook with news and comments and pictures. (There’s a link to our FB page on the right hand side of this page). We also run a WhatsApp group which residents can join and chat.
  • A Website: This is the Village Hall website (KaberVH.com), and provides as much information as we can find. From information on clubs and events, to minutes from committee meetings, and information on how to book the hall.
  • Email: We will also try to publish regular emails, you can subscribe to these via the subscribe button on the right of each page.

So this post is really just to announce that the website is now live.

This website is very much a “first attempt” and we will be trying to develop this to help the Community work together to have a great Community Hub, if you find any problems just drop us an Email, whatsApp, phone call or letter and we will try to fix it!
